The rainy season has begun in Oregon. Although Southern Oregon is blessed with nearly 200 sun-filled days every year, we do have our share of rain, snow, and colder temperatures, too. It can be tempting when the clouds set in to store the clubs away and wait for Spring to arrive. However, by doing so you will be missing out on valuable practice time with your favorite sport. Instead, use our handy tips for how to successfully (and enjoyably) golf in the rain. We hope to see you on the greens all winter long.
How to prepare to golf in the rain:
- Get good rain gear. It doesn’t take a lot of money to invest in some rain-appropriate clothing to wear on the golf course. There are many options for waterproof clothing from lightweight jackets to zippered trouser cover-ups that will quickly slip over your spiked shoes.
- Replace your grips. Rain can make your golf clubs slicker, so this is a good time to inspect and replace your grips. New grips will help you maintain better control of your swing even if the club is wet.

Most importantly, when the weather is gloomy, gusty, or wet remember to cut yourself some slack. It’s normal for your score to take a hit, but don’t let that get you down. Just getting out onto the course is good for your health and provides you with a challenging practice.
