You’ve planned the perfect golfing getaway. For weeks you’ve been dreaming about waking up with a view of the greens, taking a quick walk to grab breakfast and seeing wildlife beginning their morning routines, and then spending the day with nothing between you and your favorite game. Before you leave your home and start your adventure, you’ll need to pack your bag with a few essentials. Here’s a golfing trip checklist to make sure you have everything you need for the most relaxing golfing getaway.
The Essential Golfing Trip Checklist:
- A high-quality travel bag or case for your clubs. A soft case is lighter and easier to pack, but a hard case is more protective in case the airlines drop or crush it. There are a couple of tricks you can use to keep your clubs safe. First, use the socks you’re planning to take with you to cover the heads on the clubs. You can use extra t-shirts and golfing towel to weave between the clubs to give them more stability. If you have a soft case, adding a stiff arm will protect the clubs if they are dropped.
- Sunglasses. It’s easy to forget your sunglasses when you travel during the winter months. However, protecting your eyes is vital throughout the year. Make sure you have your sunglasses with you before you walk out the door.
- Versatile clothes. Consider each of the shirts, sweaters, and pants you pack. Clothing items that will work well on AND off the golf course will reduce the number of options you need to bring with you. Sweaters that fit over a polo shirt and keep you warm outdoors but are also stylish to wear to dinner are excellent options. One rule of thumb is, “if you can’t wear it on the golf course, you don’t need to take it on your golfing getaway.”
- Umbrella. A compact umbrella can make all the difference in your comfort on the course in the event of rain or sun. Choose a high-quality umbrella that folds up nicely but is still large enough to provide you with ample coverage.
- Backpack. A good backpack will make it easy to carry all your personal items during travel. It will also be convenient to keep your essential items with you on the course and throughout all your vacation activities. There are many suitable backpacks on the market with room for your laptop, tablet, phone, and a change of clothes.
- Extra socks. Pack more socks than you think you’ll need. Playing several rounds of golf each day will have your socks taking a beating. You’ll likely want one or two pairs of comfortable, athletic socks for your games and another softer, warm pair for relaxing at the restaurant or in your room afterward.
- A hat. Make sure you throw in your favorite brimmed hat to wear on the golf course. Although you can always buy one at the clubhouse to keep as a souvenir, having a comfortable one you know fits well is always nice to ensure you play your best at your game.
- Optional items. These items are the lowest priority because you can easily purchase replacements on the course if you need to. Optional items include golf balls, golf gloves. tees, a ball marker, a range finder, towels, and a water bottle.
