A Brief History of Eagle Point
The town has a long history beginning with the westward migration in 1852. Seven years before Oregon would become a state, the Little Butte Creek area was settled by adventurers hoping to make a new home in this unchartered territory. Soon, mills, businesses, and schools were built, and a community began to thrive. These newcomers found the land very suitable for successful farming, and orchards were planted throughout the area. Apples, pears, and other fruits are still a mainstay of Southern Oregon commerce. In 1945, highway 63 was paved, providing an easy way for people to travel to the Upper Rogue and Crater Lake and increasing tourism to our town.
