As we roll into a new year, it’s time to set new personal goals for yourself, or what we more enthusiastically call “New Year’s Resolutions.” This is a great time to challenge yourself to improve your game and health. If you’re wondering where to start, here are some ideas for New Year’s golfing resolutions to get you off and driving your way to your best scores yet.
Ideas for your New Year’s Golfing Resolutions:
- Golf often. It’s a proven fact that people who golf more often perform better. Practice really does make perfect. Take some time to schedule your golfing days in advance to make it a priority on your calendar. If you’re golfing twice a month now, try increasing it to weekly. The more often you work on your game, the better you will get.
- Add a regular workout regimen to your routine. Good posture, balance, muscular strength, and flexibility are essential to establishing a proper, controlled swing. Our professional coaching staff can help you select exercises and stretches you can do at home to get your body in shape for a successful round of golf. You might also consider adding a day or two at a local gym to supplement your golfing routine.
- Increase your cardio. The average walking distance on a PGA golf course is just over four miles. Walking is a great way to stay fit, but you’ll need to get your heart and lungs in shape to maintain your swing as you get to the last holes. Taking a walk at home regularly is an easy way to increase the health of your cardiovascular system.
- Set realistic performance goals. If you’re tempted to write “achieve a hole in one” on your New Year’s golfing resolutions list, stop right now. According to the National Hole-in-One Registry, the odds of the average golfer making a hole-in-one are 12,500 to 1. It’s great to shoot for the stars, but setting such difficult goals can leave you frustrated and kill your motivation. Instead, choose goals based on behaviors. For example, “I will maintain a positive attitude if my ball lands in the pond” or “I will golf even if it’s raining.”
- Develop golfing buddies. Golfing is more fun when you have friends to spend the day with on the course. Find opportunities to socialize at the Eagle Point Golf Club and make some new friends this year. You can never have too many golfing buddies.
- Sign up for a tournament. You don’t need to be a professional to play in a golfing tournament. Tournaments have a variety of classes based on skill, experience, and age. Participating is a great way to test your skills and witness your progress throughout the year.
- Register for a one-on-one coaching session. At the Eagle Point Golf Club, we provide customized instruction to help our golfers refine their skills. We start by assessing your performance and then providing you with easy exercises you can apply to your game immediately. Contact our pro shop for more information.
- Upgrade your equipment. Visit our Pro Shop to check out the latest equipment on the market. You may find that the set you’ve been using for over a decade is worn out or doesn’t meet your needs any longer. Take opportunities to try out different brands, weights, and lengths of clubs to discover selections that will enhance your performance.
- Join the Eagle Point Golf Club. Becoming a member of the Eagle Point Golf Club comes with outstanding benefits. For a reasonable initiation fee and monthly membership fee, you’ll have unlimited access to the course. Members also receive discounts at our Pro Shop, the Talon Grill, and on cart rentals. This means you’ll be more excited to play and have nothing stopping you from spending more time on the course.
- Book a golfing getaway this year. Make it a goal to spend a weekend or a whole week enjoying all the attractions in Southern Oregon while you also have mornings and afternoons on the course. Our staff at The Resort at Eagle Point will help you coordinate a full itinerary exploring our area, from winery tours to white water rafting, skiing, shopping, and more. The whole family will enjoy their time in beautiful Eagle Point, Oregon.
