Many golfers enjoy the game because it allows them to spend a day on the course to enjoy beautiful surroundings, take in the fresh air, and catch glimpses of wildlife. Golfing is all about relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Located in the heart of Southern Oregon, the Eagle Point Golf Club is centrally located to many of the state’s best outdoor activities. We encourage our guests who want to expand their adventures in the outdoors to extend their stay to take a drive along the Siskiyou Loop.
Explore the great outdoors with a drive on the Siskiyou Loop.
The Siskiyou Mountains are a part of the Klamath Mountain Range, traversing the landscape from northwestern California to southwestern Oregon. Visitors experience a diversity of surroundings, from canyons that receive over 100 inches of precipitation during the winter to eastern sections that are dry and arid. Rocks in this range are some of the oldest in Oregon, establishing a timeline that pre-dates many other natural formations in the state. Look closely, and you may identify several unusual plant species like the Darlingtonia californica (a rare carnivorous plant that enjoys wetland areas) and the Kalmiopsis leachiana, a survivor from the pre-ice age era and the oldest living member of the azalea and rhododendron family.
It’s simple to plan your day in the Siskiyou Mountains using the “Siskiyou Loop Discovery Tour” from the US Forest Service. A complete drive along the loop begins in Medford, circles toward Applegate Lake, follows the Siskiyou Crest to Mount Ashland, and ends with a scenic drive northbound on I-5 through Ashland and back to Medford. Because 25 miles of the loop are single-lane, graveled, and dirt mountain roads, the Forest Service provided descriptions by milepost so visitors can choose which sections of the loop they want to visit.
