Southern Oregon has an ideal climate for playing golf, but did you know it’s also one of our nation’s premier locations for growing grapes and making wine? In our region alone, we benefit from 170 microclimates and five AVAs. In layperson’s terms, Southern Oregon is a great place to make various outstanding wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Tempranillo, Pinot noir, Viognier, and others. If you’re planning a trip to the Eagle Point Golf Club, why not make it a mini-vacation and include a winery tour?
Tips for planning the perfect winery tour:
- Select local wineries that interest you. Talk with the Resort at Eagle Point staff about your wine preferences. We’re familiar with all the favorite local wineries and can help you narrow your picks to the ones with wines that best fit your tastes.
- Plan to limit your day to visit two to three wineries. Avoid overplanning your day by visiting too many different wineries. At each stop, you’ll be welcomed by hosts who will share stories about their winery’s history, the growing environment, and what makes their wines unique. Many will include a tour of their facilities or the vineyard. If there are more wineries you want to visit, spread your tour over multiple days.
- Book your stops ahead of time. For the most personalized touring experience, make reservations with each winery in advance. Some may be closed to visitors without reservations. Regardless, with advance notice, you are more likely to be given a dedicated tour guide, and you’ll have a much better experience. Our team at the Resort can help coordinate reservations for you.
- Hire a driver. If you’re not fortunate enough to have someone in your party who volunteers as a designated driver, then hire one. You’ll likely want to expand your tastings by enjoying a glass or two of your favorite selections, so leaving the driving to someone else is the safe, responsible choice. We are happy to help our guests with all aspects of planning the perfect getaway, including coordinating transportation as needed.
- Eat before you go. Don’t start a winery tour on an empty stomach. Many wineries have small menus of snacks or charcuterie platters available, but few have a full menu. You will be much more comfortable and at ease, if you’re not thinking about how hungry you are during the tours. Plan on having breakfast or lunch with us at the Talon Grill before you begin your adventure.
