How does a 2-Person, 6-6-6 Golf Tournament work?
Our men’s golf tournament on July 16 will be a 2-Person, 6-6-6 Golf Tournament. If you haven’t played this format before, you’re in for a treat! A 2-Person, 6-6-6 golf tournament is a unique format that combines elements of team play and individual competition. In this format, two-person teams compete against each other over 18 holes, with the round divided into three distinct formats: 6 holes of best ball, 6 holes of scramble, and 6 holes of super drive.
The tournament begins with the first six holes played as best ball. In this format, both players on each team play their own ball throughout the hole, and the team’s score is determined by taking the better of the two scores. This encourages aggressive play and allows each golfer to focus on their individual performance.
The next six holes are played as a scramble. In this format, both players on the team tee off, and they choose the best shot. From that point, they both play their next shots from the same location and continue to alternate shots until the ball is holed. The scramble format promotes teamwork and allows for creative shot-making, as players can take risks knowing their partner is there to back them up.
The final six holes transition to super drive. Super drive is a bit of a combination of best ball and a scramble. In this section of the course, both players tee off, and then the best drive is selected as the starting point for the remaining shots. Team members play individually from that starting point. After play has concluded, the score of the player with the lowest score is the one counted for that hole.
At the end of the 18-hole tournament, the team’s scores for each format are totaled to determine the overall winner. This format provides a balanced blend of individual skill and teamwork, as players have the opportunity to shine on their own during the better ball and alternate shot portions while also relying on their partner’s strengths during the scramble.
